It Started with a Squat Rack
The story of Freedom Fitness Equipment didn’t begin in a boardroom; it started in a backyard in Charlotte, North Carolina, during the height of the 2020 pandemic.
Our founder, Ashton Ferrazzo, was working a comfortable job in corporate finance for a Fortune 100 company. On paper, life was good. In reality, he was burnt out on the red tape, the bureaucracy, and the feeling of being just another cog in the wheel. Like many of you, he turned to his home gym for an escape.
When Ashton bought a used squat rack to build out his own setup, he realized something: finding high-quality, affordable gym equipment was harder than it should be. He sold that first rack, doubled his money, and a lightbulb went off. What started as a "pandemic hobby" flipping weights in a sunroom quickly turned into an obsession with sourcing the best gear for people who needed it most.
Chasing "Freedom"
The name Freedom Fitness Equipment isn't just a catchy title—it’s our core philosophy. For Ashton, this business was his ticket out of the corporate rat race and into a life where he could call the shots. He took a massive risk, quit his secure finance job, and bet everything on the idea that if you treat people right and sell good gear, the business will grow.
And grow it did. Freedom Fitness Equipment went from a backyard operation to a storage unit, and finally to a massive warehouse headquarters in Charlotte, NC. We’ve doubled in size almost every six months since inception, not because of fancy marketing, but because we actually give a crap about our customers.

We know the fitness industry can be shady. Early on, we took our lumps—getting burned on bad deals and dealing with dishonest brokers. Those experiences didn’t break us; they shaped us. They taught us exactly how not to treat people.
